Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer, the man Dayton defeated in the 2010 governor's race, are going to Mexico together.
Emmer will join Dayton's delegation traveling to Mexico City and other key trade sights during a trade mission next week.
Dayton won 8,770 more votes than Emmer in a recount-inducing race for governor five years ago. Last year, Emmer ran and won a seat in congress representing the Sixth congressional district. In 2014, Dayton won his second term in office.
If bitterness lingers from that 2010 contest, Dayton is not letting on.
"I really appreciate his willingness to go," Dayton said.
Despite their political differences, Emmer and Dayton do have one love in common.
"We'll talk hockey," said Dayton, a former Yale goalie, of Emmer, a former University of Alaska-Fairbanks college hockey player.
